Comments from the 2008 race

Loved the race - beautiful off road race. Will be returning next year.
3 concerns - I crossed the finish line with Polly Wallace who is placed at 304. My name is not on the list of finishers. Need to ensure that everyone is marked off on finish.
Fun run start was too slow - do the raffle another time. Kids can't cope with waiting around for a raffle. And those near to the raffle couldn't hear the loudspeaker. It was all very confusing. Didn't understand that the raffle was on race nos. Could either call the raffle during the fun run, or draw early and catch winners as they cross the finish line.
Fun run needed more parents/marshalls around the field. A no of kids were in tears half way around the field. Better to have 2 loops of the field and supporters all the way round - would help with motivation. Kids loved the medals at the end though!
Generally, a great day. Thank you very much to the organisers.

Emma
Thanks for a great race. I thoroughly enjoyed the course, will definitely be back next year! The atmosphere on the day was wonderful. Thanks to all the marshalls and organisers.
I would recommend that next year there are more toilet facilities available. The queue 15 mins before the start of the 10k was very long!

I did not pay high fee to run but I must say event was overall good, great course as I could see! Well done organisers BUT;
I know someone who came 2nd in 5k but results went wrong and he shows 3rd? Maybe enlisting running club to help may solve?
Charity listed below is not registered maybe?
A Hurlsey church having a loo?
Churches tell unproven lies, so that not good for Hursley.
P.C's for schools?
Kids parents should pay for own PC not tax payer or charity. Kids should be out getting fit not playing PCs at school. That why UK is not same at male distance running no XC running in schools now. Lazy kids.
Cricket Pavilion?
My running club needs new club house but we do not ask charity to pay. We just charge higher subs. You should get the rich parents or kids who play the cricket to pay.
Thank you for letting me gives views.

Roz
Had a blast! First 10k and ready and raring for more of the same!Thought the whole organisation was fantastic - a really friendly atmosphere.Definitely doing 2009.

Keith
A MASSIVE thank you to all you guys that organised this event, I know most of you and the time you have dedicated in order for it to commence. This event has also attracted many new runners to push to limits they never new existed - fantastic!

It's is easy to forget what goes on in the kitchen, when your enjoying the meal, then theres the washing up...

Chris
Hi,

I left a message earlier ago about what a great race it was but just wanted to say, in Alan's defence, that I did consider not doing the race because the entry was two or three quid more than other comparable races. However, in the end I did stump up the cash and thoroughly enjoyed the day. I must also say that I necked half a bottle of NZ Sauvingnon Blanc and a couple of Guinesses the night before and still beat my time from last year by nearly two minutes. However, its not big and its not clever.... I just train very hard aswell :-)

Louise
Im a bit confused on how Alan's comment went from having a moan about how expensive the race was, to lazy people having a glass of wine?!

I understand that you feel £15 is to expensive and you have every right to express your views but I personally had a great day! Im very new to the running circuit (im afraid I embraced the lazy wine drinking part of life up to about 6 months ago) and this was my 3rd organised race, so im afraid I don't have much experience but I thought the race was brilliant and I enjoyed every bit of it! There was great support from all the family's of the runners and also the marshalls on the way round, and a great fun atmosphere, special mention should go to the girls handing out the banana's who were all very nice and cheerful and did a great job. I think between me, my boyfriend and his dad, we were given seven! I thought the home straight was fantastic as well!!

Already noted in me and my boyfriends diaries for next year...this time though i'l be up with the big guns doing the 10k!

Angus
Well done to all the organisers, marshalls etc. A great event and good fun. Course was stunning. I don't know who organised the weather but they did a good job!.

Christopher Grist
Thanks to the organisers and the marshals for making my first ever 10k a memorable one. I will definitely be running again next year.

Tim Newcombe
Well done to the organisers. Very well organised and marshalled. The kiss and slap on the back side at the 7k water table was brilliant! My first organised race and it was great. Hursley 2009 is already in the diary . It was brilliant running with loads of extremely friendly people all working very hard to achieve their own goals. Mine was simply to finish in a half decent time . The choc cake, burger and tea at the end was heaven! Great day !!Thanks to all involved.

Ewan Panter
Oh and I maintain that it was a bargain…. I had got my money's worth in bananas alone.

Alan
Excuse my earlier outburst and Dyslexia within my English.

All I am saying is make the fee the cost of the race and if kind folk wish to pay a bit extra for charity? Have a separate donation slip for them. Charity is not compulsory.
I do appreciate the organisation.
P.S. put clubs section and vets on the form?

Thank you for listening to my view.

Ben Unsworth
Excellent race, well organised, friendly marshals and a great course (except for the hill at 8km!). My day was made by beating Ewan Panter (better luck next year dude!) and not bumping into Alan... I had two glasses of wine the night before, so I feel we may not have got on.

I will be there next year - to hand another beating to Ewan and enjoy a top race. Perfect way to close the summer season!

Alan
Let me clear up some remarks left be earlier abusive people on this VIEW POINT comment board.
Firstly; It is not a negative comment to give your view on the cost of a race. In the advertising material I saw £12 as the enter on the day fee. So that maybe false advertising.
Secondly. If we travel all the way there, miss a morning's work to race then we obliged to run and to force people to pay that much for local charity ( of which i did not even see which charity is was) is not a good thing to do. WE ARE NOT ALL RICH, we have to budget for our many many races we do each year and train/have trained very very hard for sometimes up to 13 times a week for! (not like most normal lazy, glass of wine or no fitness each day types.
Thirdly; To compare that event in the light of some of the 12-15 quid events WELL it does not even come close.
Fourthly: Many people want to race and not raise money for charity as they may have massive mortgage debt or finding hard to make end's meet. Running may help their sanity or depression.
Five and last; If this is a comments board for VIEW POINTS then it is daft to say you can't leave a constructive wider view. IS THAT TRUE? ARE DIFFERING COMMENTS BANNED? I HAVE NOT BEEN ABUSIVE? GOOD DAY TO YOU.

From: Admin.
There will be a new set of results up tomorrow.

These will have one additional column which will contain your position in the race in which you entered (ie. 10k or 5k). This is in addition to the current position column which actually shows your position overall, ie both races combined.

I'm sorry for any confusion this has caused. I rushed the results out and didn't really think how they would appear on the web.

Gary
Rupert Merrick
Results are ok for me now...

Rich, the "missing" places are taken by the 5k finishers, so yes you did come 87th... :¬)

Karen
still not working for me ;-(

From: Admin, what Rich is saying below will probably do the trick, as you will no doubt have a cached page. If you are still having a problem we have put to a pdf format for you:
10k - http://www.hursley10k.co.uk/pdfs/H10k-20 08-10kresults.pdf
5k www.hursley10k.co.uk/pdfs/H10k-2008-5kre sults.pdf

Rich Steele
Guys, Try clicking the "refresh" icon on the results part of the website (it worked for me)
Has anyone else noticed that there are a few place numbers "Missing" eg, 17,20,21,26,28 etc etc.. so if i counted 16 numbers missing does that mean i came 87th not 103rd - woo hoo!

Janet Eager
Good event, helped by the good weather. I feel though that the 5K should start 30 minutes after the 10K - where we merged at the end it was unfortunate that we were in the narrow part in the woods - which is downhill and therefore the 10K runners were pushing on to try and get a good time, not fair on either distance participants.

Rupert Merrick
I can't see the results either Karen...

Emma & Andy
Well organised friendly race, nice course and weather.
Cake stall at end went down a treat!
A few more toilets would have been good.
Thank you to the organisers, I'm sure we will be back again next year.

Karen
It was my first 5k and really enjoyed it, inspired me to do 10k next. Thx for great organisation and support from marshalls around course!

Admin has posted results but i'm unable to see them, anyone else got same problem?
Mark Marlow
Great race, day and course

Thanks
Keith Edwards
Excellent run, good course, well marshalled and well organised. Does anyone know when the results will be on-line?

From: Admin. The results have now been posted as at 12:15 on Monday.

Jason
Well said Paul,

Alan, there are loads of cheap races you can enter, and it was your choice to pay the £15 to help support the local area, nobody elses. Negative comments do nothing to help what was a fantastic day for all concerned - well done on great organisation & marshalling!

Paul
Alan,
I really don't think £15 is an awful lot, especially when you consider the primary function of the race is to raise cash for several good causes. No-one made you enter!
Loved the course - nice and undulating and very scenic.....many thanks!

Alan
Far too expensive 15 quid on the day!! Justify the breakdown of that please. No medal for me which is fine because most want a mug or nothing to lower that silly TOO COSTLY FEE! We are in a massive credit crunch..Come on.. oh and was nice in 10k NOT to be sent off-course like last year did the 5k run ok with directions this year? Also put the 5k entry into the 10k form as my partner could of ran, had she know there was a 5k too! .. Other than that THANKS for organising/marshalling.

Richard Gilbert
Wonderful race - great organisation, terrific route and a cake stall at the end!!

Rupert Merrick
I've been racing for less than a year and this is my local race, so I was delighted to see such great support for the event. It was very well organised and marshalled and was thoroughly enjoyable. The course was fantastic, what a great finishing straight.
My only suggestion for next year would be to stagger the finish of the 5k and 10k races a little more, as passing slower 5k runners in the narrow 9th k was difficult.
Thank you for a lovely event.

Alistair McKinlay-Brown
Thank you to all involved in organising such a great race. I've been involved in road racing since 1981! and this ranks high on my list . . . Great course, well marshalled, well organised, and a perfect morning. In training for next year already!

Well done to all concerned for all your efforts

Jules Cavalier
10K was a great run and the atmosphere exceptionally friendly. The runners were very courteous to each other. Well organised, well signed very encouraging marshalls. I will be running this again next year for sure. THANK YOU!

Hannah Lucas
This was my first 10k event and I really enjoyed it, loving the hills and rough terrain, tough but very do'able. Well done to all involved in the organisation, it seemed pretty flawless to me. Thanks!!

Ewan Panter
Excellent race, not to sure about the ploughed field at the start, but I guess it made it interesting!

The last 2k of the 10k was great - flying down the narrow forest trails was amazing.

Chris
Fantastic race and course - gruellin but so much better than the Totton 10ks. Most enjoyable course so far and very well run - maybe the 5k should beat least 30 minutes after the start of the 10k with the narrow tracks at the finish making it difficult to pass. Will definitely enter next year. It's been dry both years so far so it would be interesting to see it in the wet.

Adam D
Well done! Course was well marked out and marshalled! Great weather too!!

Great course along forest trails, flawless organisation, well marshalled. An excellent event that, thanks to the addition of the 5k and the fun run, seemed to be enjoyed by the whole family.Already in my diary for next year.

Jason Arnold
Great course, great weather, well organised, personal best 10k time, shame about the pa breaking down but hey, 99% perfect is ok! See you next year!
